CCSI's Ladan Mehranvar spoke at a webinar organized by Rethink Trade that also featured Senator Elizabeth Warren and Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz, on the occasion of the release of a comprehensive guidebook on how governments in the Americas can exit the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) regime and end its threats to climate resilience, public health, and democratic governance.

President Joe Biden invited leaders from Western Hemisphere countries to Washington on November 3, 2023. This Summit provided a great opportunity to launch an Americas-wide ISDS exit. The Summit’s goals – creating a green economy transition and resilient public health systems and furthering the rule of law – demand the elimination of ISDS. CCSI, together with Rethink Trade, and Georgetown Law’s Center for the Advancement of the Rule of Law in the Americas (CAROLA), released a white paper, "Turning the Tide: How to Harness the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity to Deliver an ISDS-Free Americas,” which provides the roadmap.
