Mind the Gap: Bridging Risk Perceptions and Private Capital Flows to Emerging Markets

Blended finance has gained significant recognition as a tool to mobilize private capital for sustainable development, particularly in EMDEs. When well-structured, it can help mitigate risk, attract commercial investment, and accelerate progress toward the SDGs. However, many investors remain hesitant due to unclear exit pathways and limited data for risk assessment. To unlock the potential of blended finance, it is crucial to reduce complexity and enhance standardization across instruments and processes.

In this event, CCSI presented its recent report on blended finance, engaged in dialogue with key stakeholders on effective blended finance practices and policies, and discussed concrete solutions to foster collaboration and partnerships aimed at scaling blended finance mechanisms.

Keynote speakers:
CCSI’s Lisa Sachs moderated a panel discussion with representatives from multilateral development banks, credit rating agencies, bilateral donors, philanthropic finance, and private investment firms.

Panelists included:

  • Patricia Danzi, State Secretary and Director General, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation
  • Elizabeth Kibirige Namugenyi, Director, Partnerships and Blended Finance, IFC
  • Matt Robinson, Associate Managing Director, Moody’s
  • Kjell Forsberg, Director, SIDA
  • Kalpana Kochhar, Director, Gates Foundation
