Supporting governments, civil society, communities and peoples, and other relevant actors in strengthening the governance of land-based investments (including investments in agriculture, renewable energy, forestry, and extractive industries)
Recognizing that more and better private sector investment is widely seen as critical to advancing economic development and achieving the SDGs in low- and middle-income countries, ALIGN responds to concerns that land-based investments sometimes also contribute to dispossession, environmental degradation, and conflict. With work in multiple countries across Sub-Saharan Africa and the Asia-Pacific, it spanned three core activities:
ALIGN is a collaboration of CCSI, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and Namati. It is funded by UK Aid from the UK Government.

What’s next? CCSI now leverages this unique evidence base to shape the agenda on food systems transition and adaptation finance, recognizing that effective land governance is essential for directing capital, safeguarding rights, and unlocking durable climate resilience.
