Financing Climate & Sustainable Development

Informing Financial Institutions’ Climate Alignment

The Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) is partnering with the Institut Louis Bachelier to develop a methodology that measures the impact of financial institutions (FIs) on real-economy decarbonization. Supported by Climate Arc, this work will build on Arc’s ongoing mapping of methodologies and data providers, with the goal of enhancing actionable metrics that support climate-positive financial decision-making.

This initiative recognizes the progress made by existing approaches while addressing gaps in how FIs’ influence on decarbonization is assessed. Rather than reinventing the wheel, we aim to refine and consolidate the most effective tools to support alignment around key impact-driven metrics.

CCSI’s project will focus on:

  • Developing a Practical Methodology: Identifying metrics that capture the real-world impact of financial institutions, leveraging available data sources.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: Conducting consultations to ensure alignment and broad usability.

Through this work, we aim to contribute to a stronger foundation for financial institutions and stakeholders to assess and improve climate impact measurement.

Stay updated on our progress, workshops, and upcoming publications as we advance this important initiative.
