The Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands hosted a webinar on International Investment Law Assistance Mechanisms: Issues, Evidence, Lessons Learned, Proposed Solutions.

CCSI prepared a Scoping Study on Securing Adequate Legal Defense in Proceedings under International Investment Agreements (Scoping Study). Based on extensive interviews and desk-based research, the Scoping Study considers capacity challenges states experience in engaging in and achieving their objectives in international investment law, surveys a wide variety of models that Assistance Mechanisms may take, considers previous attempts to establish such Assistance Mechanisms specific to international investment law, and assesses critical issues that should be considered by policy-makers as they consider the breadth and depth of services offered by and the model that any Assistance Mechanism should follow.

Introduction: Ralf van de Beek, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands

Presenters: Lise Johnson and Brooke Guven, Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment
