The Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment (CCSI) and the Columbia Society of International Law (CSIL) co-hosted a talk by Rodd Izadnia, Dispute Settlement Lawyer, World Trade Organization (WTO), on “The Sustainability of Multilateral Economic Governance.”

This talk surveyed some of the main issues and controversies presently being discussed by WTO Members on the three pillars of the organization: (1) negotation of new rules; (2) multilateral monitoring and notification; (3) adjudication and enforcement. It addressed, in particular, issues in the Doha round of negotiations and the ongoing negotiations on fisheries subsidies, in addition to current challenges facing the WTO dispute settlement system and the present impasse on nominating new members to the WTO Appellate Body.

Rodd Izadnia is advisor to WTO dispute settlement panels, arbitrators, and the Appellate Body on disputes arising under the WTO agreements, and advisor on negotiations to amend the WTO Dispute Settlement Understanding.
