CCSI hosted a one-day roundtable on “Governing Natural Resources: Lessons learned from good governance initiatives for extractive industry investments and large land-based agricultural investments.” The roundtable brought together representatives from civil society, the private sector, governments, and academia with experience in extractives investments and/or land or agricultural investments.

The closed roundtable sessions provided the opportunity to consider whether, and if so, why, certain good governance efforts may be more advanced in one sector than in the other, and what could be done to further advance governance initiatives in both sectors. The conversation focused primarily on legal and policy frameworks and initiatives that promote good governance, as well as good governance initiatives to maximize the benefits to communities. Participants also explored potential ways to follow up the discussion with collaborative research or on-going exchange.

An outcome document of the roundtable is available here.

CCSI’s supporting partners for the roundtable were Global Witness, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), and Oxfam America, with financial support from the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Thematic Group 10, the Government of Australia and Cloudburst Group.
