CCSI and the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights co-hosted a roundtable discussion on impacts of the international investment regime on access to justice for affected individuals and communities. Discussion included an assessment of the specific impacts of international investment agreements and investor-state arbitration on access to justice for rights-holders, and of the extent to which existing proposals for reform of the investment regime and improvement of human rights enforcement mechanisms address these impacts. The discussion was informed by the opening remarks of Surya Deva, current Chair of the Working Group, and by representatives of two communities impacted by investor-state claims.
