Negotiations on a China-US bilateral investment treaty have been underway for a number of years. In 2013, the importance of reaching such an agreement was re-emphasized by both countries in the context of their strategic dialogue. If such an agreement could be reached, it could arguably constitute one of the most important templates for future international investment agreements. This project looks at the obstacles to such an agreement and the compromises that could possibly be envisioned.
